ABOUT JIMMEKA

Jimmeka Anderson is a graduate from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro with a Bachelors of Science in Human Development and Family Studies and a Concentration in Adolescent Development. Jimmeka is currenty enrolled in the Educational Media Master's Program at Appalachian State University with a focus in New Media Literacies and Global Perspectives. She currently resides in Charlotte, NC where she is the Founder and Executive Director of I AM not the Media, Inc., a non-profit organization for teens that empowers youth through media literacy and media creation. Jimmeka is also an author of two books, poet, spoken word artist, and a public speaker for youth and young adults where she travels locally and outside the Carolinas. She has spent the past ten years educating and inspiring young adults in a non-profit setting to try and reach their full potential.

 

In her current position at Charlotte Mecklenburg Library, Jimmeka serves as a Library Supervisor Coordinator where she plans programs and large scale events for the the city of Charlotte, NC.

 

She is a recipient of the 2013 National YALSA Award for Youth Programming and has been recognized as the 2013 Outstanding Paraprofessional of the Year for the Charlotte Mecklenburg Library System. Recently, she was notably recognized by the community of Charlotte as a 2014 Trailblazer Honoree.
