OBJECTIVE ONE 

Teens will analyze photo campaign ads created by other teens by answering questions about the media's influence on cultural issues through an online discussion forum.

The online discussion forum, Critical Lens Question, will be provided on every web page with a photograph. Each question connects the photograph with a cultural issue. The discussion forum question encourages higher thinking and assesses the number of teens that were capable of analyzing the photographs utilizing their critical thinking skills. As teens progress in the exhibit to their final photo encounter with photo campaign nine, teens should enhance their ability to critically asses content and evaluate the connection to cultural literacy.

OUTCOME: 80% of teens will display higher thinking ability when evaluating photographs by the final photo.

OBJECTIVE TWO

Teens will complete a pre and post assessment with two open-ended questions at the beginning and conclusion of analyzing the online photo exhibit.

EVALUATION TOOL: Epic Form Builder

The pre and post assessments provide comparison data and measures the effectiveness of the exhibit in teaching media literacy and critical thinking. The assessments are provided prior to participating in the exhibit and in conclusion. Both assessments provide controlled content with the same two videos and two open ended questions. There will be a music video (Blurred Lines by Robin Thicke and Pharell) and a commercial video (Maybelline Push Up Commercial). Teens will be provided with the same questions in both assessments that challenge them to utilize higher thinking to analyze the messaging presented in both videos. The assessments are coded with an 8 digit number which is the teen's birthdate. Each assessment is matched with the birthdate to compare critical thinking ability. 

OUTCOME: 80% of teens will increase their critical thinking skills with more ellaborate responses compared to pre assessment.

OBJECTIVE THREE

Teens will cast their vote surrounding cultural issues related to media influence by submitting their opinion through an online poll.

EVALUATION TOOL: Poll by POWr.io

The online poll, also known as the Teen Perception Poll, will be provided on every web page with a photograph. The poll provides quantitative data and empowers teens to evaluate their perspective towards a certain cultural issue influenced by media. The quantitative data provides instant results governing the perspective of teens and cultural issues.

OUTCOME: 90% of teens will voice their opion governing cultural issues connected to media influence.

OBJECTIVE FOUR

Teens will demonstrate higher order thinking skills by sharing an original concept for their own photographic media creation.

EVALUATION TOOL: Wix Free Comments Widget

At the conclusion of the exhibit, teens will be provided with the opportunity to submit a proposed concept for their own photo campaign surrounding a cultural issue related to media influence. Teens will showcase higher thinking in connecting an issue with a message that serves as a call to action. Teens are asked to explain how they would design and create their photo campaign. Te number of teens that participate in the exhibit and the number of teens that submit a photo campaign idea will provide a percentage on the number of teens compelled to take action through media literacy engagement. The qualitative data provided will provide further insight on teens' ability to engage in higher thinking with media development.

OUTCOME: 75% of teens will take action and submit a proposal after experiencing the exhibit.

OBJECTIVE FIVE

Given emoji buttons that coincide with photos, teens will evaluate how imagery makes them feel and communicate their feedback utilizing emoji symbols.

EVALUATION TOOL: AnyPoll

The emoji board will be provided on each webpage with a photograph. The widget utilized is in the format of a poll and provides three emoji options for feedback: sad, indifferent and angry. The tool will evaluate the ability for the media created by teens (photo campaign ads) to influence their peers emotional health. 

OUTCOME: 70% of teens will submit an emotion other than indifference by the conclusion of the exhibit.
