Phase 1: Telecommunication

Currently, CMS has a 10gb pipe line coming into the district. Personnel are responsible for watching pipelines and ensuring as one starts to fill and become slow that some users are transferred to another pipeline. CMS runs 1gb to every school. This is a recent change as they use to run certain amounts to elementary, middle and high schools.

In an interview that was held in June 2016, with the Assistant Director of Information Systems for the school district, Cedric Canty stated that CMS began to notice some elementary schools were using more bandwidth than high schools, so they evened out the amount each school received.

Therefore in regards to network support, our school would definitely need to increase the 1gb pipeline that is currently being offered to support the iPad initiative at the school. This is key in the first phase of implementing the plan because we must ensure we have the bandwidth and internet capability needed to allow all students in the school online access. Certain sites may still be prohibited to decrease the amount of space usage through the CMS pipeline.
